Billie Jean King’s memoir recounts her childhood growing up in Long Beach, competing across Southern California (“the cradle of tennis”) in an era before sports scholarships for women and embarking on a lifelong journey to find herself.

“All In” is set against the backdrop of the women’s movement, civil rights movement and later the fight for LGBTQ rights. King details a groundbreaking career that included six years as the world’s No. 1 women’s tennis player and defeating Bobby Riggs on live TV in the 1973 “Battle of the Sexes.”

When: Billie Jean King will be in conversation with Times executive sports editor Christian Stone on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. PT.
