Please check out this quick video interview conducted by Josh from The Batman Universe. He talked with Chip Kidd at the 2010 San Diego Comic Con about his love of the Batman character. They also discuss a few Batman Books that Chip has worked on and there’s news about a “future publication” called BAT-MANGA ( that was not released at the time but out now, ha! ). Pretty interesting.
We're thrilled to report that two Pantheon Books won Eisner Awards at the ceremony held recently at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con. Graphic Novelist Craig Thompson ( pictured ) won Best Writer/Artist for Habibi and Art Spiegelman's MetaMaus won Best Comics-Related Book!! Congratulations to both of these amazing Artists, very well deserved!! BRAVO!!
Blog Reporter Matt Staggs of SUVUDU showed up at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con and did a really great interview with Chip Kidd. They talked about two new releases from Pantheon Books: THE HIVE by Charles Burns and BUILDING STORIES by Chris Ware. They also touched a little bit on Chip Kidd & Dave Taylor’s new DC Comics’ Graphic Novel, BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN. Then, the amazing part, he mentioned this website! OK, the new books are way more important but I was happy about the site getting a little bit of hype, ha ha! ( Thanks to Matt Staggs for sharing the Video ).
Just a quick post to share this fun photo Chip Kidd took while taking a break from working at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con. Walking around he ran into some amazing creatures, and then, he saw these TROLLS! Yes, Peter Jackson & company were at the event hyping their new movie, ” THE HOBBIT”, and as a part of their promotional display they had these GIANT statues erected. If you look at the Woman in the photo, for scale, you can easily imagine how HUGE these things really were. They were a total hit, everybody loved them.

OK, We’re sharing a fun photo here from the 2012 San Diego Comic Con event that Chip Kidd is scheduled to be at all weekend ( Please see our NEXT APPEARANCES page for more information ). While there yesterday Chip met the Artist Dave McKean and the main thing he had to say about him was, “Wotta sweetheart!” Of course this is the guy who is a legendary Graphic Artist! Some of his best known work is the amazing Book Covers for Neil Gaiman’s Sandman ( Vertigo ) and Batman’s Arkham Asylum ( DC Comics ). Speaking of Gaiman, Dave McKean also did the illustrations for Coraline (2002) and The Graveyard Book (2008), among others. Actually, he’s done way too many cool things to list here, ha! So, if you want to see more great art from this guy then just please be sure to visit his personal website & blog, CLICK HERE!

Here’s a fun wacky photo from the recent 2012 San Diego Comic Con event. Chip Kidd said he was honored to meet “Ramona Flowers”, a Character from the “Scott Pilgrim vs The Universe” Graphic Novel by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Actually it’s a real-life person named Ari Wells who is a Graphic Designer in San Diego, CA. She was kind enough to pose for this picture. Also, her Cosplay Costume is pretty SWEET! Check out the reference down below.

Chip Kidd is pretty well known for being a HUGE Batman Fan. So, you know as he was running around the San Diego Comic Con and came upon the “Sideshow Collectibles” Booth he had to have totally spazzed-out over these brand-new BATMAN items, ha!! This company always produces the most excellent stuff and we gotta say we are very impressed. For a Serious Batman Collector this show must be total torture!
The 1st pic is a new Batman Figure that is a more Modern-Day “Comic Book” Version of the character. Plus, the details are insane! Next is a Life-Size Bust of Batman and it’s said that it’s so realistic that it’s like looking at a real person, scary! Last, but not least, is another statue. This one is full-figure and shows the Caped Crusader standing on a Gargoyle ( Which is probably on the roof of some building in Gotham City. That city has a TON of Gargoyles, ha! ).

Here’s a quick post to share a few more photos Chip Kidd took at the current SDCC event. He was very proud and honored to meet TED, the Teddy Bear Character/Actor from the recent comedy movie starring Seth MacFarlane and Mark Wahlberg. Then, the next pic is what Chip said was the Promotional Tote Bag that deserves the “Best Tote Bag Award of 2012 SDCC”! It was created by Last Kiss, Inc. and, I gotta admit, it is very clever & funny!
The San Diego Comic Con has not even busted loose yet ( they all go wacky koo-koo crazy on the weekend, ha! ) and already the SUPER-HUGE news to break out is that Neil Gaiman will be returning to his popular character, The SANDMAN! Yes, Neil Gaiman is set to start writing new stories!! It’s also important to note that J.H. Williams will be doing the Illustration so you know it’s gonna look AWESOME! Now, Neil was not even actually at the event but made the announcement via video conference from the DC Comics Vertigo Offices in New York City. OK, Maybe you think this news is too good to be true and you don’t believe us? Well down below is the video, check it out!!
Also, since this post is sort of about the 2012 SDCC event I thought it would be cool to share this photo of what the PANTHEON BOOKS Booth looks like. Check it out, pretty snazzy! They have been saying that the attendance is crazy & Graphic Novels are flying all over the place! So, if you’re there this weekend please be sure to visit Booth #1515. Chip Kidd, among other Authors, will be there signing books.

Chip Kidd is set-up at the PANTHEON BOOKS/Random House Booth at this year’s 2012 San Diego Comic Con ( It’s Booth #1515, for more info please check out the NEXT APPEARANCE page, navigation tab is up top ). Every now & then he gets a chance to go looking around and can’t help but totally geek-out on all the cool brand-new Batman stuff that is EVERYWHERE! He’s been sending us some really great photos ( look for even more later ).
First up is a HUGE Promo Banner near the DC Comics Booth that features BATMAN AND ROBIN with artwork by Frank Quitely, beautiful!
Then, speaking of Advertising Banners, here’s another one for a new Batman Video Game future-release.
The next photo is a Batman Japanese Shogun Warrior-type Figure. This was made by FUNKO who just makes extremely excellent stuff. We think this figure is a SDCC Exclusive because it’s all “Black and White” ( the original one is color ).
Then we get to see a new “SUPERMAN VS BATMAN” Statue based on Frank Miller’s THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS Graphic Novel. OK, we actually saved the BEST for last! Here is an Original “Marshall Rogers” Comic Art Page offered by some vendor. What torture!!
