We just discovered a really great website recently called the MONKEY ART AWARDS and it’s main focus is celebrating achievement in the entertainment advertising arts and sciences, whew! Another way to put it, it’s a very clever, funny & informative site where they cover ideas relating to Art Direction & Graphic Design.
Here’s an example. Check out these totally hilarious “Vintage Pulp Paperback Book Covers” that anyone in this field can relate too, funny stuff! To enjoy more of their wacky crazy antics please CLICK HERE!
Yes, the title of this post is kind of confusing but looking at the photos here should explain everything! A Company called STANDARD DESIGNS has released a series of Art Prints where they have made “Book Cover Spines” that are parodies of actual Record Albums originally done by two bands, Joy Division & New Order. Well, they have done other bands too, but who cares!
Just to clarify, the second photo, is not one of the print images but a very close-up detail shot of the 1st photo.
We thought these parodies were wacky, clever, & fun. So, if you do too then please be sure to visit their site for more information & eye candy!

In today’s ultra-stressful world we can all use a good laugh every now and then. So, here is our attempt to share some awesome parody book covers and even a few hilarious comic strips… all related to the love of reading books. Plus, the art of writing them.
The 2 parody book covers shown here are just way too funny, and so well done, that we had to share them! The 1st one is not an actual book cover but a mash-up of J.R.R. Tolkien’s THE HOBBIT, if it were a Children’s Little Golden Book, ha! Then, believe it or not, the 2nd one is an actual real-life book, a cook book, that is an amazing idea capitalizing on the fame of “Fifty Shades of Grey”.
OK, These comic strips pretty much explain their self but the one of the confused book buyer in a bookstore totally cracks me up! Plus, if you’re an Author, then be sure to check out the 2nd strip because you know you have met this “Muse” before, ha!

Fans of the Designer Chip Kidd know he is famous for creating, among other things, the Jurassic Park Book Cover that eventually became the logo for the movie. Yes, we all love the famous Dinosaur silhouette that has graced many film tie-in products. Well, here are a few parodies of that logo we thought we would share and it’s crazy how much variety there is!
Oh yeah, this last photo is not really a “parody” picture but it’s an actual real-life tattoo that somebody got…WOW!

They say that “Imitation is the Highest Form of Flattery”, so I thought this would be a fun idea for a post. Chip Kidd is pretty well known for creating the logo used for Steven Spielberg’s JURASSIC PARK Movie. Well, actually he had first designed it for the Book Cover to Michael Crichton’s novel that the film was based on and then Universal Pictures optioned it for the use as their Official Movie Logo, cool! It was a big part of the movie, not only for Advertising, Billboards, Movie Posters, etc… but it was also featured prominently IN the movie because it was the “Logo for the Dinosaur Theme Park” and they kind of made a point about the evils of mass-marketing ( Lunch Boxes, T-Shirts, Mugs, etc. ). Anyway, the rest is history and this classic logo has become sort of iconic. So much so, that there have been a million parodies! Here are just a few… for laughs, ha ha! Enjoy.
