



We just discovered a really great website recently called the MONKEY ART AWARDS and it’s main focus is celebrating achievement in the entertainment advertising arts and sciences, whew! Another way to put it, it’s a very clever, funny & informative site where they cover ideas relating to Art Direction & Graphic Design.

Fun Literary History – Elvis Presley’s 1948 Signed Library Card

OK, here’s a wacky piece of literary history! Back in 1948, at age t thirteen, a young Elvis Presley checked out “The Courageous Heart: A Life of Andrew Jackson For Young Readers” from his high-school library. In fact, he must have really loved this book because it’s said that he checked it out multiple times! Also, this is the earliest known example of his signature… cool!

LONDON BOOK FAIR – Check out this wonderful video of Neil Gaiman’s keynote speech at The Digital Minds Conference 2013, QEII Conference Centre, Westminster, London. He shared some very powerful ideas and the speech given will really make you think. It was recorded on April 14th, 2013. His talk is mostly about the differences between Digital e-Books and real Books… and their futures.

Yes, the title of this post is kind of confusing but looking at the photos here should explain everything! A Company called STANDARD DESIGNS has released a series of Art Prints where they have made “Book Cover Spines” that are parodies of actual Record Albums originally done by two bands, Joy Division & New Order. Well, they have done other bands too, but who cares!
Just to clarify, the second photo, is not one of the print images but a very close-up detail shot of the 1st photo.

We recently discovered a cool blog named CORPUS LIBRIS that has a very fun unique concept. They share photos that people have taken where the picture shows them with a real-life BOOK JACKET COVER very strategically placed in the photo to blend in with their own body. You have seen these before, sometimes they’re really very clever! Well, that website has a ton of them and you could easily spend an hour or two of your time just laughing!
