FANBOY RADIO Interviews Book Cover Designer CHIP KIDD!
May 10th, 2013
Last year, around February, Chip Kidd was in Texas to speak at a special lecture given at the Dallas Museum of Art. So, to promote the event he got the chance to talk with the crazy guys over at FANBOY RADIO. ( We mean “crazy” in a good way, they’re awesome!)
The cool thing is that you can tell that the people doing the interview either, did some amazing research, or they’re just honestly huge fans because their questions were really really clever. I mean, they discuss Graphic Design, Book Covers, Comic Books, Batman, and a few of Chip Kidd’s Books like – The Cheese Monkeys, The Learners, Batman: Death By Design, and much more.
OK, I know this podcast interview is “a year old”, but it’s actually still very timely today and it shares some really good insight into design and other issues. So, please enjoy… oh yeah, and please share it with everybody you know
THANK YOU FANBOY RADIO!

Yes! We can finally talk about it, ha ha! The Book Publisher, Workman Publishing, just released the Cover Photo and Release Date for Chip Kidd’s next brand-new book which will be titled, “GO: A Kidd’s Guide To Graphic Design”. You can look for it at your favorite Bookstore location around October 8th, 2013.
The basic concept is that this book is geared toward teaching “Graphic Design” to Children. Yes, school kids need to understand design concepts too but the book will also prove to be valuable to Adults as well. We’re talking about Graphic Design Students, Working Designers and other Creative Types. Chip Kidd opens the book with the following statement:
“CONGRATULATIONS, you have decided to open this book, even though you have no idea what it’s about, and the cover is weird and seemingly at cross-purposes and possibly even pretentious. But you opened it anyway. And you know what? That was a design decision. Yes indeed, whether you realized it or not, pretty much most decisions you make, every day, are by design…Take my word for it, you are a designer.”
Chip Kidd starts with the promise that everyone is a designer, and uses each page to show the reader why that is. Each spread explains and demonstrates a crucial introductory graphic design concept like: Form, Size, Scale, Repetition and Pattern, Color, Typography, etc.
HEY! Amazon has the hardcover book available for pre-order at a special price for a limited time:

BuzzFeed’s “Inspiring Workspaces of the Famously Creative” Article Includes Chip Kidd!
April 17th, 2013

OK, This is one of those kind of posts that are just totally fun to write (and hopefully fun to read, ha!). Over at the always-awesome BUZZFEED Website they recently published an article titled, “Inspiring Workspaces of the Famously Creative”. Basically, it’s one of those “Image Dump” posts where the Blogger will display a ton of interesting photos and you just keep being amazed at how many there are and how neat it all is and it goes on and on, it’s wacky-crazy! The pics are really fun to see and you just can’t believe how many there are or how diverse they are too.
Anyway, the subject matter are all related to showing the Office or Art Studio of some very well-known creative-type people and (WOW!) Chip Kidd made the list, #11! Yes! Plus, WOW what an honor, they throw him in there with Mark Twain, Georgia O’Keefe, Adrian Tomine, Willem DeKooning, John Updike, Ray Eames, John Lennon, and many many more! Like we said, the concept of this post is very clever, and we have to give props to their Senior Editor, Summer Anne Burton, for the idea. So, if you want to see what Chip Kidd’s super-messy Office looks like (ha ha) then please be sure to check it out.
