I thought this would be a good idea for a post, just posting some of the many book review videos that have been done for Chip Kidd’s Graphic Novel, BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN (DC Comics). The interesting thing about “video reviews” is that, since the format is so visual, the reviewers can also focus quite well on the amazing artwork of Dave Taylor. Besides the compelling storyline, the book’s other main interest is that the art is also a very enjoyable part of the book. So, this is really cool. Thanks to everybody who took the time to create these videos.
As a side note:
One of the videos (the 4th one) is an “Audio Only” Interview with Chip Kidd that was done BEFORE the book came out. So, in contrast to the other ones, which were obviously done by readers of the actual book, it’s kind of interesting. Hey, here they are… please enjoy.

THE SPHINX Examines Chip Kidd’s Book, “BAT-MANGA: The Secret History of Batman in Japan”
April 17th, 2013

Over at THE SPHINX Blog they did a series of articles where they deeply examine Chip Kidd’s book, “BAT-MANGA: The Secret History of Batman in Japan“. You remember this book, it featured very detailed reprints of long lost manga comic book stories of Batman and Robin that were illustrated/written by Jiro Kuwata in the 1960′s. Great stuff!!
Well, THE SPHINX does a great job at breaking down and analogizing many of the individual panels and does so with a sort of a tongue-in-cheek snarky humor, it’s fun! Now, we’re linking to PART ONE and while there please be sure to view their left side-bar for Parts 2, 3 and 4. Hey, you’ll be both entertained and rewarded!
HEY! Also, if you would like an Autographed Copy of BATMAN BAT-MANGA signed by Chip Kidd then please CLICK HERE!

We’re really proud of the fact that Chip Kidd’s Book, BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN, is still getting nice reviews! I mean, we’re totally excited, seriously! Kidd’s first Batman Graphic Novel was published by DC Comics last year and is still selling pretty well (whew!). The artwork for this book was done by the amazing Dave Taylor. So, that’s probably the main reason, ha!
But check this out. Grant Watson, an award-winning Australian playwright and science fiction critic who writes a blog called THE ANGRIEST, just finished reading this book and posted a wonderful review (Thanks Grant).
Here’s one of the things he said about Chip Kidd:
“I love that Kidd has written what is effectively a thriller about architecture: design and construction is central to the book’s narrative, and several of the key characters are architects. The book is set in an undefined past: there’s a sort of 1940s vibe about the entire book that really works. It reminded me at several points of DC’s excellent Sandman Mystery Theatre, which is no bad thing.”
He also mentions Dave Taylor (Comic Book Artist) too:
“Dave Taylor’s penciled art is outstanding. He takes the architectural theme of the book to heart, giving each panel some beautiful art deco design. Everything in the book is beautiful: the buildings, the cars, the furniture – even the people. His characters are richly drawn and expressive.”

BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN (DC Comics) Gets Another Great Book Review!
February 28th, 2013
We want to thank Andrew Wheeler for posting a fine Book Review on his blog, ANTICK MUSINGS, about Chip Kidd and Dave Taylor’s recent Graphic Novel, BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN (DC Comics). His review is kind of funny in the way he came up with the concept of “Good Chip vs Bad Chip”. We’re not quite sure what he means by it but he does write some pretty interesting views on the book. Overall he praised the book for it’s merit, so that’s cool. Hey, tell us what you think. Please CLICK HERE and give it a quick read. (Thanks Again Andrew!)

Chip Kidd Set To Design 4 Book Covers for BEFORE WATCHMEN Deluxe Hardcovers Editions (DC Comics)
February 23rd, 2013
The most talked about prequel miniseries in the comic industry, BEFORE THE WATCHMEN, are about to be collected in 4 deluxe hardcover editions. DC Comics just announced that the book covers will be designed by Chip Kidd and they have given them a release date of this summer.
Having previously designed a variant cover for BEFORE WATCHMEN: RORSCHACH issue #3, Chip Kidd was recently asked by DC Comics about what it means to him to design these historic covers. Here's what he had to say, “To design these covers is both a privilege and an honor. And a challenge! The ‘Before Watchmen’ creative team did a truly impressive job, and I will try to do justice to them. So to speak.”
Well, we can't wait to see them and we hope you're just as excited as we are. So stay tuned for their future reveal.
