Marc Kleinhenz, a Writer/Reporter over at the Huffington Post BOOKS BLOG, has been writing a very excellent on-going article series titled “Creating the Bat”. Basically, he interviews many Artists and Writers who have worked on the Batman character over the years. In “Creating the Bat # 9″ he talked with the Comic Book creator Dave Taylor. Dave, as you should know, was the official artist for the Batman graphic Novel, Batman: Death By Design (DC Comics), which was written by Chip Kidd.
Marc threw some very though-provoking questions out at Dave Taylor and his answers are both insightful and clever. Seriously, it’s a great article! So, if you’re a fan of THE BAT-MAN then please check it out, just CLICK HERE!

Did we say “rare” in the title… we should have said “ultra rare”! Yes, over at the HAKES AMERICANA & COLLECTIBLES Auction Site the designer Chip Kidd has decided to sell his cherished 1950′s DC Comics Comic Book Rack Wooden Store Display. He’s putting it up for auction mostly because he just doesn’t have the space for it in his small apartment.
The “Comic Book Rack” made an appearance on page 41 of Chip Kidd’s 2001 book about BATMAN Toys and Collectibles titled, “Batman Collected”. The auction ends on November 21, 2013 at 12:00 PM EST. You can visit HAKES by clicking RIGHT HERE!
Also, down below is a photo of how this item looked in the “Batman Collected” book:

Over at the always amazing ARCHITIZER website Samuel Medina just posted a book review about Chip Kidd’s Graphic Novel, BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN (DC Comics). The website’s main focus is on the latest trends of Modern Architecture so they have a very interesting angle on this book. We love how they focused on Dave Taylor’s artwork as well. Plus, may we also suggest that while you’re there, go look at some of the incredible home design eye-candy. Seriously, very cool stuff, you’ll drool for days!
You can read the review by clicking HERE!
Here’s some comic book publishing news that is way too cool NOT to mention. It looks like the Graphic Novel Book, BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN (DC Comics) has been translated into a “Foreign” German-Language version for the Germany book market. The only main difference I can see is that the title has been changed to “Bauwerke des Todes” which, when translated into English, means “Structures of Death” …cool!!

Debbie Millman, the extremely brilliant and ultra-beautiful host of the DESIGN MATTERS podcast, that is a major part of the DESIGN OBSERVER website, recently interviewed Chip Kidd about many many things: His experience with his now popular TED Talk, what it was like to kiss Neil Gaiman on stage at the last San Diego Comic Con, his life-long appreciation of the comic book character BATMAN and much much more.
But, the main focus of the interview is the creation of Chip’s latest book, “GO! A Kidd’s Guide To Graphic Design” (Workman Publishing). Debbie asked some really great questions that were very thought-provoking and together they cover a ton of design-related topics.
About her, DEBBIE MILLMAN is the president of the design division at Sterling Brands. She is also President Emeritus of AIGA, a contributing editor to Print Magazine, and chair of the School of Visual Arts’ master’s program in Branding. In 2005, she began hosting the podcast show, DESIGN MATTERS. She also has a brand-new book titled, “Self Portrait as Your Traitor” (HOW Books) which is coming out in November, 2013.

WOW! The brand-new BATMAN: BLACK AND WHITE #1, published by DC Comics, has just hit newsstands and it’s already getting quite the buzz! Here are just a few Book Reviews that have hit the Internet lately and we’re really excited! The reason we’re mentioning this new book, other than being MAJOR Batman Fans, is that Chip Kidd wrote one of the stories included in this first issue and the art was done by Michael Cho (who is incredibly talented. Like as in, totally gifted!). The links are all down below, please check them out! Oh yeah, and here’s a hilarious comic panel from the book, ha ha!

The photos up above show the regular comic book cover (the 1st one) and the other special variant covers (The 4th one that is totally blank is specially designed so you can get a sketch done on it by a Comic Book Artist at Comic Book Convention. Also, the one with a “photo cover” showing a Batman: Black and White Statue, it’s the one created by Sean Murphy) . Yes, DC Comics has really gone all the way on this new series!
Then, down below, is an example of some of the interior art. The 1st photo of the inside art gives you an idea of what Chip Kidd’s story is gonna look like (Yes, Chip wrote another Batman story and this one includes Robin too!!). The artwork has a very cool retro vintage-style. Plus, I’m really digging the second one showing “Batman Zombie” by Neal Adams! Actually, ALL the art and writing in this thing is super great! You’re gonna love it!! So, please be sure to pick-up your copy today.
