Random House Hurricane Sandy Relief Aid

This post is a special message intended mostly for Employees of Random House but the information is also extremely valuable to every person who reads this. We have all seen the news coverage of the horrific events that took place recently on the east coast of the United States, it was nicknamed “Hurricane Sandy”. Many people were deeply affected by this tragedy and we sincerely want to help. We also want those people to know that they are not forgotten & we do care. So, if you can volunteer your time or donate money then please help in any possible way that you can. Thank you. Down below is a copy of an in-house memo from Random House:


In light of this week's storm, many employees have expressed a desire to help.
Below are several organizations and their contact information. Each contain
comprehensive and current information regarding such initiatives: where to
donate blood, how to make cash donations, volunteering initiatives, and how to
donate supplies or services.

Please be sure to check directly with the organization you are interested in
helping since the need for blood donations and other types of assistance change
on a daily basis. Although there may not be an immediate need, help will be
needed in the weeks to come.


Random House, Inc. will match any contribution dollar for dollar our employees
in the U.S. have already made or will make, to your choice of an established
tax-qualifying Hurricane Sandy relief aid organization or philanthropy. More
information on the special Matching Gifts Program will be made available

As we head into the near future, here are some things you can do in your local area
to help with Sandy recovery efforts:


The Connecticut Red Cross is asking interested volunteers to email<> with their phone number and
email address. The Red Cross will then contact them with further information
about how they can help.

The NBC Connecticut Storm Relief Drive will be held on Sunday, November 4, from
9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of IKEA in New Haven, at 450 Sargent Drive.

The United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is seeking donations of shelf-stable,
non-perishable food items, flashlights, batteries, bottled water, and clean

There are five local drop-off locations for these contributions:
The Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center, 374 Broad Street, New
London from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
The Hampton Inn, 300 Long Hill Road, Groton
The Residence Inn, 40 Whitehall Avenue, Mystic
The Comfort Inn, 48 Whitehall Avenue, Mystic
United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, 283 Stoddards Wharf Road (at the
corner of Route 12), Gales Ferry from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.


Long Island Volunteer Center is coordinating volunteers for Hurricane Sandy
recovery projects. Please register on their site and they will contact you with opportunities.


Volunteers in New Jersey are being coordinated through an emergency response
hotline, 1-800-JERSEY-7 (1-800-537-7397). Alternate numbers, for when the
hotline isn't staffed, include 609-775-5236 and 908-303-0471 or emails can be
sent to<>.

JERSEY CARES is also coordinating volunteers for Hurricane Sandy recovery
projects. Please register with Jersey Cares and they will contact you when projects are in place.


The New York City Agency NYC SERVICE is coordinating volunteers for various
relief projects in New York City. Those who wish to volunteer CLICK HERE.

The Food Bank for New York City is looking for volunteers. SIGN UP on their website for more information.

The NYC Department of Parks & Recreation are looking for volunteers to aid in
clean up and recovery this weekend. For more information and to review the list
