Over at the FINE BOOKS & COLLECTIONS website they recently reported about how, last week, at a Rare Books auction at Sotheby’s (New York), seven books that once belonged to George Washington brought a final bid of $1.2 million dollars! Up above is a photo of the book spines all together. I don’t know, I thought this was pretty interesting to see, a nice piece of history too.
The lot contained the following books:
Volume III of Oliver Goldsmith’s An History of the Earth (second edition, 1779), bearing Washington’s armorial bookplate;
Volume VII of the same, also with bookplate
Jonathan Swift’s The Beauties of Swift (1782) also bearing his engraved armorial bookplate
Volume III of Alain-Rene Le Sage’s The Adventures of Gil Blas of Santillane (sixth edition, ) signed
Volume IV of the same, also signed
Voyages de M. de Chastellux’s dans l’Amerique septentrionale… (1786) in two volumes, signed
Joseph Priestley’s Discourses Relating to the Evidences of Revealed Religion…(1796), signed.

We thought it would be a good idea to mention that Chip Kidd has teamed-up with HAKE’S AMERICANA & COLLECTIBLES to weed-out a few Rare Batman items from his massive Vintage Toy & Memorabilia collection. The auction company even created a special page called, the “Chip Kidd Collection”. Right now, as we speak, there are about 8 items up for grabs. We should mention that bidding ends on March 21, 2013. There are even some “Adam West” Autographed items and some wonderful Animation Cels.
I posted some pics here of my 2 favorite items. One is an Vintage 1960′s BATMAN Inflatable Swimming Pool Toy that is ultra super-rare and also a really great display piece ( see photo up above). I mean, just look at the shape of this thing and the amazing retro-style graphics!
Then, for the JAPANESE BAT-MANGA FANS, they’re also offering a Vintage 1960′s BATMAN Record Album made in Japan. This thing is beautiful and has incredible graphics all over it: front/back/inside, and even has a colored-vinyl record. Very cool!! For more pics of this thing please be sure to visit their website.
Actually, there are too many neat items to list so please be sure to visit HAKE’S AMERICANA for more details.

Right now is the time for you to own a piece of Book Selling History. Like, literally, right this minute! We just found out that the letters from the original BORDERS BOOKS flagship store are being auctioned off on eBay for charity and the sales end on January 31st, 2013. Holy Crap, that’s tomorrow!!
Yes, they’re selling the letters individually ( I want the Letter “B”, ha ha ) and they would make a great decorative item to display in your home. They each measure almost two feet tall and are made of metal & plexiglass. But the important thing is that the proceeds to these sales are going to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation. This non-profit charity organization is dedicated to assisting booksellers and is a great cause. So, please click here to check out the EBAY AUCTION.
