Actually, Blade Runner was a great film and I would say it’s about ON PAR with the book. Fight Club was actually a better movie than the book, too. Just gonna leave this here…

The Shining, Psycho, Drive, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Shawshank Redemption, Forest Gump, The Princess Bride, The Godfather, both True Grits (in my opinion), Casino Royale (and the majority of the Bond movies), There Will Be Blood (my opinion), Gangs of New York (non-fiction still counts right?), The Green Mile (actually most Stephen King novels turned into movies where he had no control turned out much better than the book; see his Shining mini-series from the 90s), Schindler’s List, Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist, Goodfellas (mob movies tend to do well at this), Raging Bull, Casino (Scorcese’s also just good at this), and pretty much all of Kubrick’s movies besides The Shining are up for a fair argument over the books. Actually, a shockingly large amount of horror movies based on novels are way better than their inspirations. I think people forget just how many books are out there, and many of them are just terrible (just like every other form of art!).
