#PantheonBooks to Publish Gengoroh Tagame’s “My Brother’s Husband” Manga!

  • date
  • October 21, 2016

Massive Goods announced on Monday that Pantheon Books (Maus, Persepolis) will publish Gengoroh Tagame‘s My Brother’s Husband(Otōto no Otto) manga in English. The first two-in-one omnibus volume is slated for June 2017.

Massive Goods describes the story:
My Brother’s Husband is a family drama that begins with the auspicious arrival of Mike, a Canadian who has come to pay respects to the family of his recently deceased Japanese husband Ryoji, whose only remaining immediate family member is Yaichi—an identical twin brother. As Mike gets accustomed to Japanese morays and the surprising idiosyncrasies of living with Yaichi and his daughter Kana, the sleepy Japanese suburb also learns the true meaning of family.

Tagame began serializing the ongoing manga in Futabasha‘s Monthly Action magazine in November 2014 and the third compiled volume will ship on October 12.

Anne Ishii is translating My Brother’s Husband and Chip Kidd is designing the release. Both have worked on other English releases of other manga by Tagame, including the short story collection The Passion of Gengoroh Tagame, the first English release of Tagame’s manga.

Chip Kidd and the 13th DIMENSION Talk About #BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS Gallery Edition

  • date
  • May 16, 2016

Dan Greenfield, over at the always amazing 13th DIMENSION website, recently got together with Chip Kidd to discuss the release of Frank Miller’s BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS Special Gallery Edition.

For anyone who has not heard about this book it is totally amazing!  To read the full interview please CLICK HERE!

Basically what happened was DC Comics reprinted this classic graphic novel in a DELUXE FORMAT hardcover book but instead of a regular colorized “comic book” version they published it using the original art from the book. In other words, they show the black and white inked pages without color and in their original glory.

It’s pretty cool and the quality is awesome! (Disclaimer: Chip Kidd didn’t design the cover to this book)

In the interview Chip Kidd discusses how he came about to own, not one, but two of the actual pages of the original art by Frank Miller that were used for this book (shown down below).

Also, as a side note, we would like to mention that Chip Kidd did design the cover to the previous, original, reprinting of this graphic novel by DC Comics, both front and back, and we’re sharing pics of those here:

Oh yeah, if you would like a copy of the Batman: The Dark Knight Returns “Gallery Edition” book then please CLICK HERE!

  • date
  • March 1, 2016

WOW! We’re pretty excited to report that Sonny Liew’s THE ART OF CHARLIE CHAN HOCK CHYE came out today (March 1, 2016 Pantheon) and it has already hit Amazon’s #1 spot in the “New Release” section of the “Art of Comics & Manga” category!

This book is the much awaited graphic novel about the life and times of the pioneering, but almost forgotten, comics artist named Charlie Chan Hock Chye.

His art career spanned six decades, from Singapore’s struggle for independence and all the way through to its modern incarnation as a cosmopolitan city-state. This book celebrates both the artwork, and there’s a ton of it, and the Artist as well.

To better explain this we have embedded this new BOOK TRAILER Video down below:

We are also sharing this impromptu interview (in 2 parts) with the Author, Sonny Liew, that happened at the book launch in Kinokuniya Ngee Ann City on May 30th, 2015. Enjoy!

  • date
  • May 12, 2015

Here’s a wacky-fun  post to share this amusing photo taken at the recent New World Comics’ SUPERHERO SCHOOL in Oklahoma City, OK. This is a bi-weekly event that occurs at a local comic book store where costumed Cosplayers teach little kids about superheroes. It’s a clever idea and the costumes are always extremely creative. The kids love it!

Anyways, shown here is our friend Kit Compton, a.k.a. Foxxikitten, dressed-up as the SHE-HULK and she is showing off her new most super-favorite book, BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN (DC Comics) written by Chip Kidd and illustrated by Dave Taylor!

Oh yeah, we should mention that our other friend, Ondry Dre Braggs (Marvel’s Iron Man War Machine) made a sneaky cameo appearance in this picture, ha ha!
