Pantone-112-New-Colors-For-Graphic-Design-New-Colors-New-Possibillities

Anyone with an interest in Graphic Design knows all about the PANTONE™ Coloring System. They are the industry standard for COLOR relating to print. For those unfamiliar with Pantone we have included a video at the very bottom of this post that gives a brief history.

But, back to the main issue. This year the Pantone company made a major announcement that they will be adding 112 new colors to their color palette. To introduce these new colors they created three promo videos which feature stories on some well known Graphic Designers who all explain what “color means to them”. Chip Kidd was among the list:

That was a fun video, right? Now check this out. Pantone sells their product in 3 new formats:

The first one is what they call COLOR CHIPS. This is a book with small color chips they can be torn-out to add along to your design work. They help Printers make sure every color is exact.

The next format is their standard FORMULA GUIDE. This is a fan-like color palette which expands to show different color chips. It’s a solid unit.

Then, there’s a thing that’s kinda new called COLOR BRIDGE. This is the standard Formula Guide with another guide that shows what these colors will look like when displayed on the web. This is a very important resource for Web Designers.

For more information on all the amazing new colors, and PANTONE Products in general, please be sure to visit their official WEBSITE.

456-designers-and-books-fair-2015-chip-kidd

On Saturday, October 3rd,  2015 Chip Kidd will be signing copies of JUDGE THIS (Simon & Schuster) at the 2015 DESIGNERS & BOOKS FAIR.

In Judge This (TED Books), Kidd takes us through his day as he takes in first impressions of all kinds. We follow this visual journey as Kidd encounters and engages with everyday design, breaking down the good, the bad, the absurd, and the brilliant as only someone with a critical, trained eye can. From the design of your morning paper to the subway ticket machine to the books you browse to the smartphone you use to the packaging for the chocolate bar you buy as an afternoon treat, Kidd reveals the hidden secrets behind each of the design choices, with a healthy dose of humor, expertise, and of course, judgment as he goes.

A purchase of this book at the Fair enters you into the drawing to win an Experiences with Authors prize — a personally guided (by Chip Kidd) tour of the exhibition “Chip Kidd Presents: Batman Black and White: The Sketch Covers.” For more details about this special art show please visit our ‘Next Appearance” page.

collegian-chip-kidd-penn-state

We’re so excited about the recent “Chip Kidd news” shared by Christine Tenny, a Staff Writer over at THE DAILY COLLEGIAN, that we have to give a quick shout-out! Thank you Christine! This independent newspaper is published by students at Penn State University and we could not be any more happier about them posting their story.

Now, you’re probably thinking, “Hey, what is this about?” Well, Penn State University is the school that Chip Kidd graduated from and he donated a ton of his source material from his long career as a Graphic Designer. It is housed in the “Special Collections” section of the library and anyone, who is a Student, can enjoy it.

The collection includes work from his many book cover designs he has done for Penguin Random House, Knopf, Pantheon, and much more. It even includes the original cover artwork for Michael Crichton’s book, Jurassic Park. Which, also became the official logo for the popular movie franchise. But that is really only the tip of the iceberg. The collection houses a ton of photos, original art, proof sheets, and a lot more reference material than we can mention here.

The article was heavily researched and very well written. So, please check it out, just CLICK HERE!
