From Lisa Birnbach, the author of The Official Preppy Handbook, and designer Chip Kidd, comes a whole new take on the prep world. True Prep is a contemporary look at how the old guard of natural-fiber-loving, dog-worshiping, G&T-soaked preppies adapt to the new order of things. Birnbach considers the preppy attitude towards money, schools, wardrobe, work, decorating, scandal, and food and drink. She also looks at weekends, entertaining, sports, weddings, etiquette, the Internet and electronic gadgetry, political correctness, reality TV, and . . . polar fleece. And last but not least: a do-it-yourself eulogy. With more than 200 original illustrations and photographs, True Prep promises to be a whole new, old sensation. Random House Publishing, printed in the USA.

Here’s a nice  item we found in our archives of an interview with Designer Chip Kidd that was done for the NOTEBOOK ON CITIES AND CULTURE Podcast awhile back. It’s a really great conversation about the importance of Art School, Chip’s obsession with the now-infamous Milgram Experiment and, also, his use of an Andres Serrano photo for a brand-new Bible book cover!

They also get pretty serious talking about Chip Kidd’s 2nd novel, The Learners: The Book After The Cheese Monkeys…  Enjoy:

About This Class

Chip Kidd is world-famous for designing some of the most innovative book covers of our time. How do his ideas come to life?

This inspirational 35-minute class takes you on a journey through Chip’s process for designing an art poster, a real project he took on for the Brooklyn Book Festival in Fall 2016. As he explores his assignment, research strategy, and even graphic ideas, you’ll see how the best graphic designers — Chip amongst them — are creative and conceptual problem-solvers.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Plan and research a new creative project
  • Evaluate compelling concepts
  • Execute original ideas independently

Plus, each lesson is filled with lesser-known examples of Chip Kidd’s poster work, as well as comparisons to his popular work in book cover design.

Whether you’re creating your own poster, curious about the principles of good design, or just want to see a master at work, this class will help you “think like a designer,” hone your visual instincts, and harness the power of graphic design!

Want to dive deeper? Be sure to check out Chip Kidd’s first Skillshare class, Introduction to Book Cover Design: Making Stories Visual

Oh yeah, here is the “Introduction Video” for the class:
